HALLOWEEN 2021
Hello dear readers, we are getting close to Halloween, and because this is a blog about books I wanted to talk to you about one of the first really scary books, which was written by a woman.
Mary
Shelley was a very interesting person. She was the daughter of one of the first
feminists – Mary Wollstoncraft- and she was also the wife of Percy Bysshe
Shelley, a very important romantic poet.
One day, she was in Switzerland with Shelley and other friends like the famous writer Lord Byron and they could not go out because the weather was terrible. It was all a consequence of a volcano eruption which changed the climate of Europe at the time. So the group of friends were bored and didn’t know what to do and they decided to make a contest. The best horror story would win the prize.
And this was how Frankenstein was born…
Frankenstein is an old classic about a scientist who creates a monster and the awful events he unintentionally causes. Victor Frankenstein is a hard-working young man at university who discovers how to give life to an inanimate body and uses his knowledge to create a man-monster. He believes his discovery will lead to further scientific advances but when he succeeds in bringing his creation to life...not everything goes according to plan!
I really recommend reading this book. It is scary but also thrilling. You won’t be able to put it down once you start reading it.
Enjoy yourselves and watch out this Halloween!!
PS If you enjoy podcasts, I can recommend that you listen
to this one which will certainly creep you out!
